SOLUS welcomes Kapiti and Hutt Libraries. We are delighted to welcome 2 more members of the SMART Libraries Consortium in the Greater Wellington area in New Zealand onto the brand new Library App.
We think it’s fantastic that Kapiti Libraries and Hutt Libraries have so quickly followed Masterton Libraries and Wairarapa Libraries in purchasing the App. They’ll be going straight onto the new App and we’re so excited to get them live! The level of incoming enquiries since we launched the new App last week has been unprecedented and the new features really seem to have struck a chord with existing and potential customers.
SOLUS welcomes Kapiti and Hutt libraries as we have a very supportive customer base in New Zealand and Australia and we’re already seeing strong growth with both the App and Events & Room Bookings so early in 2023!
SMART (Sharing and Managing a Region Together) is Australasia’s only tertiary + public library collaboration. SMART Shared Services incorporates the libraries of Masterton District, Hutt City, Wellington Institute of Technology (WelTec), Whitireia NZ, Porirua City and Kapiti District. Together the libraries serve over 230,000 people and provide access to more than 1/2 million library items.
A regional SMART library card allows customers to use any of the 22 libraries; they can reserve items free of charge, pickup and drop off items at any library in SMART – also free of charge. The libraries operate a merged bibliographic database while maintaining independence of policies as appropriate for the individual entities.
SOLUS welcomes Kapiti and Hutt especially as behind the scenes SMART libraries are working to develop a new way of delivering library services. To date the group have achieved a region-wide troubleshooting process, a number of consortia purchases and regional bibliographic and serials standards to ensure all libraries adding to the shared database can do so effectively. Additonally, SMART is developing collaborative purchasing and processing, centres of excellence, partnerships with other library sectors and organisations.
